The Movement Disorder Society of Australia Clinical Research and Trials Group (MDSACRTG) was established in 2001 as part of the Movement Disorder Society of Australia (MDSA).
The MDSACRTG is comprised of neurologists and neuroscientists from over 20 hospitals or research institutes within Australia and New Zealand who have a research interest in movement disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease and dystonia. The majority of members are clinicians who have experience in clinical and therapeutic trials. The MDSA is a non-profit organisation with membership open to medical professionals with a clinical or research interest in movement disorders. Its charter is to facilitate and promote education and research in all aspects of movement disorders, from basic science to medical and non-medical therapeutics. The MDSA has close ties with the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN) and is the peak body that advises the ANZAN on movement disorders issues.
The MDSACRTG Subcommittee is responsible for administration and coordination of the MDSCRTG. Sub-committee members are elected from within and by members of the MDSA for three years, with a representative chosen for each Australian state and New Zealand. The current chair of the MDSACRTG sub-committee (2007-2010) is Dr Andrew J Hughes, from the Department of Neurology at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne.
